My next blog entry was going to be an open letter to Republicans. A hopeful plea to the handful of conservatives who haven’t yet sold their souls.
The message was simple: Please. Stand up. Say something. Do anything.
Put country over party. Push back against Trump and the increasingly unhinged MAGA reality show. Stop worshipping at the altar of “genius” Elon Musk and send him back to play with his rocket ships (Or to jail. Jail would also be fine).
But then Friday’s Senate cloture vote happened. And you know what? I’ve officially given up on my open letter. Because if our moderate Democrats (the ones who are supposed to be the grown-ups in the room) can’t even summon the nerve to act when democracy is quite literally on fire… well then, a big fat LOL to the idea that Republicans are going to save us.
A special shout out to Chuck Schumer, who—rather than actually leading the resistance—is basically the human embodiment of a shrug in a suit. He’s apparently worried that shutting down the government will allow Trump to send America into chaos.
Sir, America is already in chaos.
Can you DO SOMETHING? ANYTHING?
Let’s just call it:
The cavalry isn’t coming.
So Who’s Left? Spoiler: It’s Us.
You. Me.
We, the people who are still clinging to the idea that America is a place where facts matter, elections count, and the Constitution isn’t just a dusty prop.
We’re all that’s left. And we need to be loud.
The kind of loud that has pundits scrambling for a new narrative. The kind of loud that forces politicians to realize we’re not just going to quietly let them hand over the country to a twice-impeached game show host and his billionaire sidekicks.
Democracy isn’t dying in the darkness. Democracy is dying in a stadium, under the Friday night lights, and someone is live-streaming it from the back of a Cybertruck. It’s exhausting, chaotic, and deeply stupid. And that is the point.
So stop being polite. Stop giving the benefit of the doubt.
Protest, organize, and write. Let’s make apathy deeply unfashionable and impossible to ignore. And let there be so many of us that nobody can claim we are just “paid protesters” (although I will gladly accept payment if someone is offering).
Because if we’re waiting for courage from Congress, we will be waiting a long time. Maybe forever.
It’s up to us now.
I think this might be the big protest to get it started → https://handsoff2025.com/
See you April 5th.
